Do you do commissions?
Yes. In fact a large proportion of the works on the site were commissioned.
How do I go about commissioning a piece of work?
It’s very simple. Get in touch and we’ll go from there. Contact
How much do you charge for a piece of work?
There are a number of factors that come into play when it comes to pricing including the size, medium, and subject. As commissioned work is bespoke I don’t have a standard pricing scheme. As a starting point though, a simple oil portrait (16×20) would be around £500.
Which medium do you use?
For a commission it depends on what’s been agreed with the client which usually means oil. I also use acrylic, charcoal and pencil amongst others.
What’s your practice?
I usually start with sketching and photography and working an image up from those references on my easel at home.
What’s your favourite subject?
Honestly, I don’t have a favourite as such. I just look for something that interests me in whatever the subject happens to be. I call this my ‘hook’. It could be the lighting of a scene, the look in a face or the texture of a surface.
Who’s your favourite artist?
This is a bit like choosing your favourite film! There are many artists that I like but there are a handful that I come back to time and time again. In no particular order I would cite Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent, John William Waterhouse, Lord Leighton, Corot and Piranesi.
